Kate and Spencer were part of a litter of 9 pit-bull mix puppies dropped off at
the Animal Shelter in Dublin, CA the summer of 2001. Their mother had been tethered
to a fence that she tried to jump which resulted in her demise. At 8 weeks old,
they found themselves motherless and at a shelter full of strange sights and sounds.
Among the mass of black romping puppies, was the lone tan with black markings pup
– Spencer; too cute to resist. Kate, one of Spencer’s siblings, was often on the
receiving end of Spencer’s puppy roughhousing, but like her namesake, Katharine
Hepburn, she is a smart and strong female. Kate is the brains and Spencer the brawn
of this dynamic duo.
Because of their lineage, Kate and Spencer may not have lived through an extensive
stay at the shelter. While not a breed for everyone, they are loving, smart and
will challenge you to stay ahead of their next doggie deed. The investment of socialization
and various training classes is now realized in full as adults. Kate and Spencer
even recently successfully earned their CGC (Canine Good Citizen) certificate from
the AKC.
